Alda Saunders raises questions about art exhibitions with her latest work.
Saunders created Artrage: An Esoteric Art Show to explore what belongs in an exhibit and who determines what belongs. She poses the queries, can it be more than pretty pictures, does work need to be framed?
Her work varies from acrylic and watercolour paintings to mixed-media collages. The central piece, Artrage, is about art daring to get out its confines.
Some of Saunders’s pieces were created without using a paintbrush.
Her exhibit is on display at Art 10 Gallery, located in Nanaimo North Town Centre, throughout May during mall hours. There is an artist reception, which is open to the public, Saturday (May 4) from 2-4 p.m.
Saunders will also be present to discuss her work Wednesday (May 8) in the evening and May 15 and May 29 during the day.
Her exhibit coincides with Art 10 Gallery’s 30th anniversary celebration.
