Stephen Spielberg’s Schindler’s List will screen in Hope next week, 25 years since it was first released.
Next Thursday, Nov. 29, the Hope Cinema will screen the historical drama which begins in the Krakow Ghetto and moves to the Nazi concentration camps of the Holocaust amidst World War II. The Hope Film Club is putting on the screening and they are not alone, with the film being re-released in select theatres as part of Universal Pictures’ 25th anniversary of the Oscar-winning movie.
“The big screen is a great way to bear witness,” writes Jon Polishak, film club member.
“The film and subject matter is one of almost unspeakable sadness and suffering, though it is done in a hauntingly beautiful and sensitive way,” he writes. “Spielberg felt that this was the most important film he ever made and that his entire career as a director of major Hollywood blockbusters was preparing him to make this picture.”
When released in 1993, the film took home seven Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Music, Original Score. It was nominated for five more.
The screening is happening Thursday, Nov. 29 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for non-members, $8 for members.
