Local talent is being sought for an annual event that supports rising stars in the community and provides an evening of quality entertainment.

The Mosaic Youth Talent Showcase takes place on Friday, May 27 at Knox United Church in Parksville.

Local country singer Beth Marie Anderson is producing the show this year which includes scholarships for those selected to perform.  She said she is looking for talented performers for the show which can include any artistic discipline.

“I am looking to see if someone thinks they have what it takes. It is a chance for them to showcase their talent to the community and get a scholarship towards their art,” she said.

Applicants need to be under 25 years old to participate and must fill out an application form outlining their talent and why they would like a scholarship.  She said every performer gets a scholarship but they must pass an audition to be included.

Anderson, who is 25 years old, sang in the show for four years.

Her father initiated the event through the Rotary Club of Parksville when Anderson was just starting her musical pursuits as a way to promote her and other talented youth in the community.

As the organizer she will perform this year in a duet with Erik Gow.  She said Gow will emcee the event and it should be very entertaining.

“He is the most talented person I know.  He is a stand up comic and he is hilarious.  He also plays piano and sings.”

She said she has already solidified some participants but would like more performers to sign up.  She said they can sing or dance but tap is not allowed because of regulations to do with the church floor.

Previous performances by talented youth in and around the area have included opera, classical music, musical theatre, hip hop dances and contemporary singing, among other disciplines.
