See acting legends at the National Theatre on Cowichan screen

When you see the poster, you’ll think: Gandalf and Capt. Picard in a show together.

You probably know them as adventure movie heroes but Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart are superb stage actors who’ll be starring together in a Harold Pinter Play.

When you see the poster, you’ll think: Gandalf and Capt. Picard in a show together.

You’ll be right, too.

But they are both in their natural habitat: walking the boards of live theatre.

The National Theatre’s Live in HD series continues at the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre on Thursday, Feb 2. at 7 p.m.

Following their hit run on Broadway, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart have returned to the West End alongside Owen Teale and Damien Molony in Sean Mathias’s acclaimed production of No Man’s Land, a play by Nobel laureate Harold Pinter. And you can see it broadcast live on the big screen in Duncan.

First staged in London in the 1970s, this play has been repeatedly revived, both in London and on Broadway, using the talents of any number of renowned actors, who enjoy the scope it offers for their talents.

One summer’s evening, two ageing writers, Hirst and Spooner, meet in a Hampstead pub and continue their drinking into the night at Hirst’s stately house nearby.

Drunken ramblings lead to increasingly unbelievable yarns, and the lively conversation soon turns into a revealing power game, further complicated by the return home of two sinister younger men.

Tickets are $25.50 for adults, $22.75 for seniors, $17.50 for students and $17 for children.
