See, hear, taste some freaky fashions at Wearable Art Gala

Okanagan artists are creating wearable art using the five senses for ninth annual gala for Kelowna's Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art.

Now in its ninth season, the Wearable Art Gala fundraiser for the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art has become one of the arts scene’s most interesting affairs.

This year’s event takes place March 31 at the Laurel Packinghouse in Kelowna’s cultural district.

More than 50 artists will be showing their wearable wares, including creative studies students from UBC Okanagan and the Centre of Arts and Technology.

The event always promises something totally unique as artists from around the Okanagan offer up their interpretations of wearable art, including everything from a dress made of chopsticks to life-size, dancing sushi.

This year, Mark Mishadow, a promising young electronic music artist who is also starting a new music festival in Enderby this summer, will provide the sound backdrop for the stage show and after party.

This year’s Wearable theme is the five senses and Mishadow said he’s already worked with some artists developing an ambitious approach to the smell portion of that challenge.

Tickets for the Wearable Art Gala are now on sale at selectyourtickets.com for $45, which includes entrance to the after party. After party tickets only are $15 and available at the door. For additional information visit www.alternatorcentre.com.
