If you are looking for somewhere to kick up your heels on St. Patrick’s Day, Saturday March 17, the Vancouver Island Celtic roots band Skewlines will be playing with Nanaimo based Trinitude at the Errington War Memorial Hall.
To kick off the evening, Nanaimo’s family trio Trinitude will delight the audience with songs that Island Music Festival Artistic Director Robert McCourty describes as “the essence of what Canada as a nation should have — more heart and attitude”.
Then Skewlines, with members sprawled across the central island from Campbell River to Nanaimo, will take to the stage.
The members of Skewlines are happy to be playing in a venue with room enough to accommodate their numerous fiddles, flutes, bagpipes, guitars, drums and bazoukis and look forward to filling the old hall with their beautifully arranged harmonies.
Afterwards, the audience is invited to break out their own instruments and join the bands in an informal Irish music session. The all ages event is being held as a fundraiser for the The Society of Organized Services (SOS).
Recognizing the volatility of funding for local charities while volunteering in the Nanaimo Women’s Resource Centre, Skewlines member Kerri Brown wanted to do something about it.
The SOS was chosen as the beneficiary of the first concert in this series.The SOS provides services and resources to families and individuals in District 69, offering compassionate and confidential safety net to people in need.
Tickets for the March 17 show are $20 for adults, $5 for kids under 12 (kids under 5 free), and are available at Heaven on Earth in Qualicum Beach, Cranky Dog in Parksville and at the Errington General Store. — Submitted
