Oct. 17 to 26 – The Chilliwack Players Guild presents The Importance of Being Earnest at the Cultural Centre Oct. 17 to 26. Show dates: Oct. 17, 18, 19, 24, 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m., and Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. Tickets $25 for adults, and $20 for seniors and students. Preview show (Oct. 17) tickets are $20 of adults, and $15 for seniors and students. Oct. 18/19 – The Chilliwack Quilters’ Guild presents Our Quilted Treasures, a two-day quilt show at Chilliwack Alliance Church (8700 Young Rd.). The show runs Friday from 5 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5. This is the guild’s biannual quilt show and a quilt raffle which raises funds to purchase fabric and materials to make quilts for local groups such as Chilliwack Hospice, Ann Davis Transition House, Chilliwack Community Services, Hope & Area Transition Society, Sto:lo Health Services, and more. www.members.shaw.ca/chilliwackquiltersguild

Oct. 18/19 – The Woody James Band is performing live at The Anavets (305-46268 Yale Rd.) from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. tonight playing classic rock plus songs off their four CDs.

Oct. 19 – The Tractorgrease Concert Series starts tonight and runs throughout the year in the Rotary Hall Studio Theatre at the Cultural Centre at at 8:30 p.m. Tonight’s bands are Doja, Early Byrd, and Marigold. Oct. 23 – The annual Chilliwack International Film Series runs every Wednesday, Oct. 2 to Nov. 6, at Cottonwood 4 Cinemas at 7 p.m. Tickets $6 at the door. Tonight’s movie is Unfinished Song. UK; rated 14A; comedy/drama; English; 93 min.

Oct. 24 – The Agassiz Community Social Justice Film Festival runs Oct. 24 to Nov. 14 at Agassiz United Church (6860 Lougheed Hwy.) at 7 p.m. Tonight’s film is 8th Fire… It’s Time, a piece on Canada’s 500-year-old relationship with Indigenous peoples. Admission by donation.

Now to Oct. 26 – Earthscapes features work by two artists and is on display in the Art Gallery at the Cultural Centre Sept. 12 to Oct. 26. Debbie Weismiller is an abstract artist who is captivated by colour with all of its intensity, shades of warmth and coolness and of texture. Patricia Tessier works are photographs of floral studies and natural abstracts. Gallery hours are Wednesdays to Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m.

Now to Nov. 7 – Local artist Linda Phelps has her show, Classic to Modern, on display at the Chilliwack Museum from Sept. 21 to Nov. 7. Her artwork includes pieces in porcelain, oil, watercolour, and jewellery.

Now to Nov. 29 – Winter Sunrise is a fabric arts show featuring work by the Chilliwack Spinners and Weavers Guild which is on display Sept. 28 to Nov. 29 at The Art Room (20-5725 Vedder Rd.).
