Share in the scare at Haunted House

It’s a Halloween tradition that has been scaring up community funds for the Okanagan Science Centre for the past nine years, and it’s about to get even scarier.

This year, the science centre is asking the public to lend even more of a hand –– and they mean that quite literally –– with its annual Haunted House fundraiser.

The centre is holding auditions this week for volunteer members of the community to take part in the scare tactics.

They can act as ghouls, ghosts, disembodied beings ––whatever is needed–– in what will be theatrical-like production, with the theme Carnival of Screams, said the science centre’s executive director Sandi Dixon.

“Due to the growing popularity and demand of the Okanagan Science Centre’s Haunted House, we’ve teamed up with the directorial attributes of professional actor and acting coach Matt Brown,” said Dixon. “Matt is on board this year to collaborate and add to the magic of the actors’ important roles by providing theatrical training and coordination to the players. Acting and makeup workshops will be an integral component in this year’s Haunted House to amp up the effect of our special show.”

Auditions for directed parts and characters are open to anyone and everyone 16 and older and take place this Wednesday and Thursday starting at 7 p.m. each night. No previous performing experience is necessary and there will be a wide range of parts that will be cast, said Dixon.

In addition, volunteer construction crew members, with basic carpentry skills, are needed to help put all the pieces together.

“Headed up by returning Halloween specialists, Tammy and Randy Guy, you will get a first-hand chance to see the guts and innards of how the whole thing gets made,” said Dixon, adding costume and makeup artists and backstage crew are also needed to pull the production together.

Those wanting to help out with this year’s Haunted House are asked to contact Dixon or Paula Lambert at the science centre by calling 250-545-3644.
