Shinedown has been busy rocking across the U.S. and Canada on their latest tour, and the rock band is excited to return to Penticton on Oct. 15.
Touring alongside openers Papa Roach, Asking Alexandria, Savage After Midnight and more, guitarist Zach Myers said it’s been great to travel with others in the rock genre since there’s never any drama. He added that touring, in general, can be hectic though, so the band is just focused on giving a great show rather than trying to write any new music.
“I’m not worried about writing right now, and we’re going to be taking a break next year so we’ll kind of re-evaluate and probably start the process then,” said Myers. “But writing is the last thing on (your) mind since we’re still pretty deep into this record. I’d imagine that maybe late next year we’ll start the writing process.”
Shinedown’s latest single, Attention Attention, was just dropped last week and Myers said they’ve already received a great response from their fans. He added that he is the person responsible for creating the band’s setlist, and admitted: “it’s not the easiest thing to do.”

“When you have 26 number one songs, you want people to walk away thinking they got a little bit of everything. But you’re also there to promote your new record. So it’s kind of tough to create a new setlist, but there are parts that we change up every night,” said Myers. “And we’ll look at what we’ve played last time we were somewhere, and work it around there.
“We picked up the bulk of our fan base after our third album, so some days when we play older songs, some people don’t really get it. So for some people, they might not know the song, but other people are excited because they like that stuff.”
He said fans can expect a good range of songs from their discography and a world-class show. As the band’s lead guitarist, he said he loves to play Simple Man and their latest single the most but, depending on his and the band’s mood, some days other songs will speak to them more.
Myers said Shinedown plans to tour again next year but in a much smaller capacity, with 31 shows in total at smaller venues that seat 2,500 total. He added that they won’t have openers either, so fans will get to see just them on stage for the evening.
The concert at the South Okanagan Event Centre kicks off at 6:15 p.m. on Oct. 15. Tickets are available online at www.soec.ca.
