A new exhibition from the Canadian War Museum is featured at the Reach Gallery Museum as part of Culture Days in Abbotsford this weekend.
Ship Happens runs from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28. The free family event features activities for all ages based on the exhibition “The Navy: A Century in Art” and Vancouver artist Virginia Ivanicki’s “Flight Worthy.”
Jennifer Pride, education coordinator at the Reach, said families can participate in a Morse code activity, create their own sailor tattoo buttons and Morse code bracelets, make paper airplanes and pose as a sailor at the Sailor Joe cutout.
Other activities presented for Culture Days include a public opening reception on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. for “The Navy: A Century in Art,” “Flight Worthy” and “Abbotsford: A Community at War.”
On Sept. 27 at noon, learn more about “The Navy: A Century in Art” from Dr. Laura Brandon of the Canadian War Museum and curator of the exhibition as she leads a tour of it.
On Saturday, Sept. 28 at 12:30 p.m., artist Virginia Ivanicki provides a tour of “Flight Worthy” and discusses her motivation and processes on painting her works that pay homage to the airplanes and crews of the Second World War.
