Those who can’t make it to the Calgary Stampede this week may want to check out one of the Alberta city’s up-and-coming country/folk/roots artists when he comes to these parts.
Acclaimed singer/songwriter J.R. (Jarred) Shore is currently on his western Canada summer tour, and is visiting juke-joints and concert halls, including Ashton Creek’s Lorenzo’s Café Saturday.
This is the multi-instrumentalist and vocalist’s first tour since he topped Edmonton’s University of Alberta radio charts in 2010.
Last year was a banner year for Shore. Besides having his sophomore album, Talkin’ on a Bus, proclaimed the No. 3 recording of 2010 on CKUA Alberta radio, he won the Calgary Folk Festival songwriting competition for the unprecedented third time and was a featured performer at the festival.
He also won the Rhyme n’ Lyric songwriting competition at Pincher Creek, Alberta’s cowboy gathering, and his single, A Tale of Two Yankees, was added into rotation at Mix 97.7 radio in Calgary.
A master of his craft, Shore is currently creating the follow-up to Talkin’ On A Bus.
“J.R. Shore is one the premier talents in Alberta. His detailed and clever story sketches coupled with his superior vocals and outstanding arrangements combine for a listening experience that reminds one of the rooted mother lode that The Band’s Robbie Robertson and the Grateful Dead’s Robert Hunter drew their inspiration from,” said Peter North, with CKUA Radio Network
Shore will perform both his new music and previously unrecorded gems at Lorenzo’s Saturday at 8 p.m. Call 250-838-6700 to reserve.
