The sixth annual Nativity Exhibit at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Sidney is set to open Nov. 25.
The display features nativities (or crèches as they are also referred to) from all over the world including Ethiopia, China, Japan and Israel that are created out of wood, cloth, ceramics, glass and an assortment of other items. Original paintings and tapestries are also included in the display.
“We welcome (people) to step back in time 2,000 years and enjoy a peaceful hour or two before the rush and flurry of Christmas preparations,” said exhibit co-ordinator, Barbara Watters.
Watters also noted the exhibit in Sidney is impressive because it is one of the largest on Vancouver Island.
“Each piece is someone’s treasure on loan to the exhibit by church members,” she explained.
The exhibit opens at 2210 Eastleigh Way on Sunday, Nov. 25 and runs from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
It is also open from Nov. 26-29 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Nov. 30 and Dec 1 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Dec. 2 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
