An all-female comedic variety show is coming to Parksville.
Hot off a successful B.C. tour, The Dirty Betty Show will be bringing four Vancouver-based comedians to the Parksville Community Centre on Nov. 22 to perform burlesque, drag and risqué comedy.
Claire Pollock is one of the founding members of the East Vancouver-based comedy troupe.
“Our tagline is silly, sassy, sexy, so the show gets pretty wild, and it’s a lot of fun for the audience,” said Pollock.
“We were founded with the mandate that we wanted to give female entertainers a place to perform and support each other, and also to kind of let their hair down and get a bit risque with their content.”
She says that for those who get inspired by the antics of the four women on stage, there will be an opportunity for audience members to hop up and get involved.

“For brave audience members, there are opportunities for them to join us on stage, either participating in some of the improv games, or we also have a live twerk-off we do every show with the audience, which is super fun,” said Pollock.
The group says they have a wide appeal to women, but they’ve also used some unconventional tactics to attract more men to their shows.
“We used to use dating apps for one of our things that we use for marketing, but I was banned from Tinder so I’m not allowed to use it anymore,” said Pollock with a laugh.
Pollock says while the group was on tour, she’d use Tinder to match with men in the local area, and then tell them to come to the show. The app eventually got wise to her antics, but only after she said she’d send out about 2,000 Eventbrite links.
The show claims to be a laugh riot, covering everything from “fun with racial stereotypes, cannibalism as a lifestyle, trying to claim EI when you get fired as a sugar baby,” and a couple other things a bit too risqué to print.
Curious types will have to go see the show for themselves.
Tickets can be purchased for $20 in advance at www.thedirtybettyshow.com/shows or for $25 at the door.
