Victoria singer-songwriter James Kasper performs his first show in the Fraser Valley on Friday, April 29 after 20 years of recording and performing across Canada.

The show takes place at Legal Grounds Coffeehouse (33775 Essendene Ave.), starting at 7:30 p.m.

Kasper’s music is described as “alt country and folk noir.”

Over the years, Kasper has shared the stage with many notable artists, including two members of Canadian Music Hall of Fame act Blue Rodeo, Grammy nominee Maria Muldaur, Juno winners Carole Pope and David Gogo, and an opening spot for the legendary Ray Charles in 1998.

In 2008, Kasper was named Hardest Working Person in Local Music by Victoria’s Monday Magazine.

Other awards include first-place honours for music videos The Old Fashioned Way and The Gospel.

Kasper is currently working in Abbotsford, halfway through a one-year contract with 101.7 CIVL Radio, putting together the first Fraser Valley Music Awards. He also produced the Vancouver Island Music Awards from 2002 to 2014.

Tickets for the show are $7 and are available at the door on the 29th. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Opening act Jordan Toohey will perform at 7:30 p.m., followed by Kasper at 8 p.m. A film crew will be on site to capture the show.
