The local francophone singing group Nous Chantons will be celebrating French Canadian heritage next Wednesday.
In honour of St. Jean Baptiste Day, the group will be singing traditional French songs at the gazebo by the beach in Parksville’s Community Park on June 24 from noon to 2 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to attend, said Nous Chantons’ co-ordinator Suzanne Bernard.
French immersion students from École Océane in Nanaimo will also be there, she said.
The afternoon concert on June 24 will be the last of the season for the Parksville Qualicum Beach area-based vocal group, but Bernard said the choir will start up again in September. Anyone interested in joining Nous Chantons, who meet on Wednesdays from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., can contact Bernard at 250-248-8714 or nouschantons@hotmail.com.
Currently, the group has 13 members from across Canada.
