The Shuswap Singers will be celebrating 50 years of singing in 2012 and would like to invite all past choir members to consider returning as well as anyone else who would like to join in to help celebrate this special anniversary.

The Shuswap Singers will be celebrating 50 years of singing in 2012 and would like to invite all past choir members to consider returning as well as anyone else who would like to join in to help celebrate this special anniversary.

The singers are so excited about their milestone that they will be starting the celebration with practices beginning on Sept. 8 leading up to the 2011 Christmas concerts on Saturday, Dec. 3 and Sunday, Dec. 4 at First United Church in Salmon Arm.

Music for all the concerts will be chosen to reflect the past five decades and will include many old favourites, and likely some new tunes too. Kate McKie, who has been affiliated with the choir since the 1990s, will be the choirs’ conductor and Marlene Engel who has played piano for the choir on and off, also since the 1990s, will once again tickle the ivories.

Rehearsal nights are on Thursdays at the Salvation Army Church at 191-2nd Ave. NE and run between 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. New members are always welcome. One does not have to be able to read music to join the choir, just bring yourself, your voice and a love of singing, and everything else will fall into place.

The actual anniversary concerts will be held during the spring session in 2012 on Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11 at First United Church in Salmon Arm

Seasonal fees have been reduced to $50 per session to reflect the number of celebration years.
