This weekend is the Shuswap Film Society’s Reel Weekend Film Festival.
From Nov. 2 to Nov. 4, the society will be presenting six films with nine showings at the Salmar Classic. The schedule is as follows:
Juliet, Naked – Friday, Nov. 2, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 4, 10:30 a.m.
There’s no nudity – the title is the name of an album by fictional ’90’s rocker Tucker Crowe. This is a rom-com about a triangle that develops between said rocker, his number one over-the-top super fan, Duncan, and Duncan’s girlfriend (at present), Annie.
Return of the Hero – Sat. Nov. 3, 10:30 a.m. and Sunday, Nov. 4, 7:30 p.m.
This French comedy centres around Elizabeth, who worries about her despondent sister whose betrothed captain has gone to battle. Elizabeth decides to write letters from him to her sister about his exploits and concocts his heroic death in India. Complications ensue when the captain returns.

Tea with the Dames – documentary, one show, Saturday, Nov 3, 1:30 p.m.
Four of the grandest dames of theatre and cinema: Eileen Atkins, Judi Dench, Joan Plowright and Maggie Smith, all in their 80s, enjoy a spot of tea while revisiting their career highs and lows.
They are deliciously gossipy and cheeky as they chat about being a woman in show business.
The Guilty – one show, Saturday, Nov. 3, 3:30 p.m.
This is an innovative and unrelenting Danish thriller that was a Sundance favourite. The entire film takes place in the dispatch office where a demoted police officer receives a cut-off call from a kidnapped woman. From his desk he has to put his investigative skills to work to save her life. Gripping.
Eighth Grade – Saturday, Nov. 3, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 4, 3:30 p.m.
A sometimes hard-to-watch but completely relatable story of socially-inept 13-year-old Kayla at the end of her thus-far disastrous eighth-grade year.
A deeply heartfelt tale of an awkward time complicated by the often cruel dynamics of real interactions as well as social media. Rated 14A for use of the F-word.
Romantic Road – documentary, one show, Sunday, Nov. 4, 1:30 p.m.
Invited to a human-rights festival, eccentric British couple Rupert and Jan ship their ’36 Rolls Royce to Mumbai to drive to Bangladesh across rural India.
They grow and bond together through their beautiful and humourous adventure. A delightful and inspirational true story.
