The Snowed in Comedy Tour arrives in Golden once again on January 23 at the Rockwater.
In its 11th year, The Snowed in Comedy Tour brings comedians like three-time Female Comedian of the Year Debra DiGiovanni, Flight of the Chonchords’ Arj Barker, and veterans five-time Canadian Comedian of the Year nominee Pete Zedlacher, Just For Laughs winner Dan Quinn, Great Canadian Laugh Off winner Paul Myrehaug, and other special guest appearances.
“The show every year is strong. These are internationally touring comedians,” said Myrehaug. “The calibre is amazing.”
What started out as a working snowboard vacation began when Quinn wasn’t able to take time off from work. He scheduled comedy tour dates strategically around ski hills he could check out for the day, and paid for his lift tickets and rentals by doing comedy shows at night.
Playing 65 cities from coast to coast, the lineup varies in each city, and The Snowed in Comedy Tour performs at sold out venues in large cities like Victoria.
The show in Golden provides people with a smaller venue, and a more intimate setting, which can provide a space for the comedians to try out different things.
“It’s just a weekday show… It’s a little bit more intimate, and a little bit more gritty,” Myrehaug said.
The Snowed in Comedy tour says there is something for every brand of humour, and everyone will walk away with their own personal favourite comedian. The Snowed in Comedy Tour states it is showcasing some of the best comedic talent that Canada has to offer.
“You’re getting four powerhouse comedians together for one tour,” Myrehaug said. “It’s pretty special.”
Throughout the years, the comedy tour has remained as much about skiing and snowboarding as it has about comedy, for some.
Myrehaug recalled his visit last year, during which he says he nearly died on Stairway to Heaven at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.
The four very different and very funny performers come together for this tour, bringing their different styles and humour to the tour that started small, and grew to eventually cover all of Canada. This year, the tour expands to Ontario and the Maritimes. The B.C. leg of the tour kicked off at the beginning of January, and features dates province-wide until February 9. The Snowed in Comedy Tour will then travel through Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, and Newfoundland before ending it all back in Ontario in April.
Quinn is the creator of The Snowed in Comedy Tour, and has had many appearances on TV and radio. Quinn won the Canadian Comedy Competition at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. He has done Comedy Now on CTV, The Debaters, Sirius XM radio and won Best of the Fest at the Hubcap Comedy Festival in Moncton. He has travelled around the world performing comedy.
Myrehaug lives in London, England, but was born in Camrose, Alta. and tours internationally. He won the Great Canadian Laugh Off prize, and has been on Just For Laughs, Sirius XM radio, and the Debaters.
Zedlacher is quickly climbing the ranks in Canadian comedy, and is becoming one of the most recognized acts in Canada. He has been nominated five times for Comedian of the year, has performed at the Just For Laughs Gala eight times, and won the Sirius-XM Radio Top Comic Competition. Along with his acting credits, he is now writing for the CBC Johnny Harris show.
