Songs for the Season hits the airwaves

Kelowna singer Leah West helps host a holiday special playing on Shaw TV throughout the holidays.

During the holidays local artists can be found right at home on Shaw TV as Songs of the Season hits the airwaves.

Kelowna-based songstress and BC Music Awards winner Leah West is joined by local celebrity and TV personality Doug Brown, to host a holiday special for Shaw TV entitled Songs of the Season.

Songs of the Season airs on Shaw TV starting on Dec. 19 and runs daily through the festive season. Despite having worked with Shaw for over twenty years, Doug had never done a holiday show like this before.

“I’ve been wanting to produce a holiday show for years and the first person I thought of was Leah. I approached her about the idea. It was a natural fit for us to produce and host it together,” said Brown.

The show includes musical duets from the co-hosts and show-stopping performances by Jodi Pederson, Mike Gouchie, Anna Jacyszyn and Pentictonite Tracy Yost.

The co-hosts travel back in time to the Victorian era through a magical top hat to visit Scrooge and the cast of New Vintage Theatre’s A Christmas Carol. The show also includes a visit to Chabad Okanagan, where the adventurers learn about the Jewish tradition of Hanukkah. The show opens with a heart-felt performance of O Holy Night from Leah West.

Doug and Leah have collaborated on numerous music videos to support Leah’s musical career, however, this is the first time Leah has hosted a show for Shaw.

The music was produced, recorded and engineered by Leah’s band member, pianist Brigitte and includes a mix of holiday classics and original songs. Local film venues included the Penticton Lakeside Resort, Big White Ski Resort, and Candy Cane Lane in downtown Kelowna.

The show is a volunteer production, part of Shaw’s Community Access Programming, a new endeavour to try and bring more locally-inspired ideas and programs to the public.

The production airs on Shaw TV Dec. 19 at 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Dec. 20 at 8 a.m. 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., Dec. 21 at Noon, 5:30 p.m. And 9 p.m, Dec. 22 at 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., Dec. 23  at 7:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. and Dec. 24  at 10:30 a.m.
