Songs from a cowboy’s soul

Songwriter Joe Robinsmith publishes his first book of poetry

Songs from a cowboy’s soul

Joe Robinsmith will sign copies of his first poetry book Heartsongs – From A Cowboy’s Soul at Black Bond Books this week.

The book is a compilation of poetry and song lyrics written over the past seven years, including three poems written by Robinsmith’s 16-year-old son Colton.

While Joe Robinsmith’s poetry deals with love, life and relationships, his son’s tackles world issues such as homelessness, soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq, world peace and world hunger.

Born in Burnaby, Joe Robinsmith grew up on an isolated ranch in Lytton.

The hard knock days of his youth helped to shape him.

He says speaking his soul has helped him to exorcise the demons within, while at the same time helped others realize that they are not alone.

The Maple Ridge resident is currently working on an “international collaboration on light and dark.”

The project entails collaborating with more than 20 poets from around the world to compile a book that explores both the darker side of humanity and life and the light and beauty that saves a person from those dark places.

He is set to release a second poetry book – Heartsongs II – in November.

Heartsongs – From A Cowboy’s Soul is available through Amazon.com and locally at Black Bond Books in Haney Place Mall as well as at Waves Coffee at 207th and Lougheed Highway.

• Joe Robinsmith and his son Colton will be signing books at Black Bond Books on Saturday, May 28 at noon.
