Vernon entertainers Sally Evans and Molly Boyd are back to take listeners on a sentimental musical journey through the Second World War with their 12th annual concert, Songs of the War Years, Nov. 9 at the Schubert Centre.

The women say they believe that these special songs should be heard during Remembrance Day and the memories that they evoke felt even though 71 years have passed since the end of the Second World War.

“It is so important that we never forget the sacrifices that were made,” said Evans, adding that it is an honour when veterans and their families are able to make the show.

“This show is a tribute to the Canadian men and women who made those sacrifices and is a tribute to those that served overseas, those who were stationed in Canada and those who stayed home and kept the home fires burning.”

The performance includes songs made famous by Vera Lyn, Bing Crosby and the Andrew Sisters.

“You will hear the soft, tender melodies like I’ll Be Seeing You and Lili Marlene and the fun, uplifting songs like Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy that helped to keep the morale high during the dark years of the war,” said Evans, who will also share stories, poems and insight into the music.

“These songs are timeless and we invite all generations to attend the show. For younger people, this is the music of their parents and  perhaps, grandparents. For older folk, these are the songs of their youth.”

Songs of the War Years takes place from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9. Doors open at 1 p.m. Tickets are $8 and are on sale now at the Schubert Centre.
