Sooke Community Choir launches spring show

The Sooke Community Choir is jumping on the Spirit Train.

Spirit Train is the Sooke Community Choir’s latest series of concert shows.

The performances feature the choir, soloists and a sextet from the choir, piano solo by collaborative pianist Kathy Russell and a solo and accompaniement from renowned Victoria percussionist Kelby MacNayr.

The show is inspired by artistic director Bruce Ruddell’s collaboration on a series of concerts and recording with the great African-American singer Leon Bibb.

Spirit Train is a collection of arranged spirituals by Moses Hogan and powerful vocal arrangements of traditional folk songs as well as a visit from the Beach Boys and Billy Joel.

There are three opportunities to catch the Spirit Train: May 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. and May 14 at 2 p.m. at Sooke Community Hall

Tickets are available at Shoppers Drug Mart, Stick in the Mud Coffee House and at the door. Prices are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors.
