Sooke writer earns accolades in short fiction contest

David Reichheld wins honourable at the 2019 Islands Short Fiction Contest

Sooke writer David Reichheld won honourable at the 2019 Islands Short Fiction Contest awards for his work Let Morning Bring Me.

Co-sponsored by the Nanaimo Arts Council, the Vancouver Island Regional Library, and Vancouver Island University, the awards are open to writers on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.

More than $2,200 in cash and prizes was awarded.

A total of 127 entries were received this year across three categories: adult, youth, and junior.

Winners included:

Adult – 1. Katy Weicker, Victoria; 2. Jonathan Sean Lyster, Parksville; Dawn Stofer, Denman Island.

Youth – 1. Charlotte Taylor, Nanaimo; 2. Yinan Cao, Nanaimo; 3. Jocelyn Diemer, Campbell River.

Junior – 1. Thunya Dudley, Nanoose; 2. Esmé Iverson, Duncan; Carolynn Warren, Comox.

Most of the winning stories will be posted on the contest website at www.isfc.ca, where past winners may also be read.
