Maureen Washington will bring soul to the jazz vespers. Washington with guitarist John MacArthur and bassist/keyboardist Kal Wood will perform this weekend.

Washington evokes comparison to some of the great female jazz singers of our time, yet remains one of a kind.

She began her music career in Prince George where she sang in a funk, blues and swing band named BOP.  Now based in Victoria, Washington performs with many different configurations from duos to sextets.  She has worked extensively in the music industry, as a singer/songwriter, vocal instructor, and performer, and has hosted and performed on the main stage for four years at the Prince George International Folk Fest, sharing the stage with Bruce Cockburn, Janis Ian, and Martyn Joseph. She has also performed frequently at Victoria Jazz Fest, and has recorded four CDs.

The trio will perform at vespers services on March 6 at 7 p.m.  at St. John’s United Church, 10990 West Saanich Rd. There is no admission charge, and an offering will be taken. For more information, call Bernadette at 250-656-0875 or email bernadettegreene@shaw.ca.
