Every day of this month, the Saanich Peninsula Arts and Crafts Society (SPAC) is holding mini workshops for its members.

“We have everything from painting to felt painting to kumihimo (making a bracelet),” said Arloine Law, workshop chairperson.

She said it’s nice to have a variety of different workshops as the majority of the members are painters.

The workshops are taught by members of SPAC.

“It gives the instructors a chance to show what they do,” said Law, adding that it also gives participants a taste of different things.

Law is a weaver herself.

“There’s not too many weavers that are in the guild, because of the equipment that we have to have and looms and stuff. We really don’t have workshops because we can’t get 16 looms,” she said.

Law is, however, part of the Deep Cove Weavers and the Weavers Guild.

She will also be participating in some of the many workshops offered.

In order to take part in the SPAC workshops held each year, people must be a members of SPAC.

It’s just one of the many perks as SPAC pays for the rental of the art gallery, and all money made goes back to the artist instructors.

“It gives them an outing, it gives them a little bit of money. Some of the artist instructors that we have are very well known,” she said.
