A special Sunday matinée Dec. 1 on the stage at the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre features tenor Benjamin Butterfield with Bergmann Piano Duo.
Music lovers can warm up to winter at 2 p.m. with a Noteworthy Concert featuring this world-class tenor as he joins the pianists for a show they’re calling Wintersong.
The program will include songs from Schubert’s seminal song cycle Winter Journey to some British and American selections by Charles Ives and Arnold Bax. To round out the afternoon, Butterfield will present a selection of favourite Randy Newman songs.
Butterfield has earned international acclaim as one of Canada’s most successful and sought-after artists. He has performed across North America and Europe. The San Francisco Examiner described him as “…a master of [Bach] literature…” Regarded as a “musically arresting presence” by the San Francisco Chronicle, he is in demand for concert, opera and recital.
Hosts Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann continue to invite and feature artists of Butterfield’s calibre for the onstage Noteworthy Concerts at the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre.
As one patron said, “We are so lucky to have this wonderful series with such amazing performers.”
Arrive early to mingle and enjoy a hot beverage and table of treats that start each concert in a convivial atmosphere.
Please note: this concert is one of the onstage Noteworthy series but it’s being held on a Sunday afternoon instead of a Monday morning.
Tickets are $28 each for adults, while Elder College members get in for $26. Get them in person at the Cowichan Ticket Centre or by phone at 250-748-7529.
