On Saturday, March 19, it will be all green and gold as the Funtime Fiddlers kiss the Blarney Stone and pump out the jigs and reels for the highly popular contra dances at the big yellow Merville Hall on the old Island Highway.
Led by our own daffodowndilly dance caller, June, you’ll frolic about the dance hall with laughter and a light heart.
All are welcome to attend this family friendly function.
If you can walk and appreciate an energetic evening, contra dancing is for you. Generally there is a brief contra dance workshop at 7 p.m.
At 7:30, the Funtime Fiddlers leap onto the stage, start the music and the gaiety begins.
Single dancers and families are welcome. Singles can pair up with anyone during the contras and our contra sets last about 15 to 20 minutes. In between the called contra dances, we’ll play waltzes and reels, jigs and swing tunes, and line up some talented soloists for some Irish inspiration.
Wear a costume, win a spot dance and click your heels. We’ll all be lucky at this kitchen party!
Doors open at 7 p.m. while the dance starts at 7:30 p.m.
Cost is $10/adults, $5/youth (6 and under free) and you can come as a family for $22.
The free workshop starts at 7.
