Strongmen, motorcycles, music and more to make Shuswap sizzle

A full season of events is planned for this summer in Sicamous

Strongmen, rock music, motorcycles, Burt Reynolds – all of these and more feature heavily in events that will be coming to the District of Sicamous over the summer.

The district’s Canada Day celebration on Monday, July 1 will be bringing all the usual activities: musicians, a road hockey tournament and fireworks display.

This year’s Canada Day musical lineup will be kicked off by country singer Justin Hogg who will be taking the main stage at 200 Main St. at 11 a.m. Following Hogg on stage will be tribute acts the Hip Replacements and Whole Lot of Lead and 1:30 and 4 p.m.

Headliner Donnie McDougall of The Guess Who fame will be forgoing a landlocked stage to perform on a barge off shore at the beach park beginning at 8:30 p.m. McDougall will be playing on the barge from 8:30 until dusk and then the fireworks will close off the night.

The road hockey tournament on Main Street will be well underway by the time the bands start their sets.

Age groups for the tournament are 5-7, 8-10, 11-13, 14-16, 17-18, 19+, 35+ and 50+ based on age as of Dec. 31, 2019. Team registration for the four-on-four tournament will be open until June 26. The registration fee is $25 per team.

The weekend of July 18, 19 and 20 will be all about the roar of motorcycle engines as the Summer Stomp and S-Games are in town. The S-Games event downtown on July 20 will feature thrilling stunts from Reagan Sieg and his team of motorcyclists along with biking trial star Jeff Anderson showing that an engine isn’t needed to put on a show for the crowd. Scott Adams and the Stuntwest Freestyle street bike team are also coming back for another year, burning rubber on Main Street in Sicamous. New to the S-Games will be a Nitro motorcycle demo.

The S-Games will also feature musical acts Kane Incognito, Wise Youngblood, Five Alarm Funk and The Wild live on stage.

The Summer Stomp which runs from July 18-20 at the Sicamous Dog Park will feature bike games a poker run and bands. This year’s musical acts will be. Tickets for the festival that is entering its 30th and final year are available at the Hideaway Liquor Store, the Burner Grille, All in Automotive and After Dark Distillery.

A new event for the district this Summer will be the Sicamous Strength Festival a strongman and highland games exhibition on July 27.

Along with the big weekend events, Sicamous is putting on movies and music in the park weekly for the months of July and August. Musicians hitting the stage for the Monday evening shows at the Sicamous Beach Park between July 8 and Aug. 19 will be: WIL, Devon Coyote, Sherman “The Tank” Doucette, Melissa Livingston, Small Town Artillery, the Johnny McCuaig Band and Ben Klick.

The Thursday night movie in the park will start on July 11 with a screening of Overboard and will finish up with the Breakfast Club on Aug. 22. Other titles will include Smokey and the Bandit, The Blind Side, Mamma Mia!, Benchwarmers 2 and The Mighty Ducks.
