Studio B in Cumberland offering Untamed Dreams

Studio B Gallery is proud to present “Untamed Dreams”, an exhibition of art by Jennifer Brant and Meghann Rader. The exhibit, produced by Studio B’s resident curator Sonia Stastny, opens Friday, Oct. 2 with a reception from 7-11 p.m.

Autumn is a time to return to the darkness where the feminine energy prevails. It is time to turn inward and daydream, scheme and contemplate. The two female artists exhibited in Untamed Dreams have mastered the art of capturing dreamscapes and inner worlds we all explore whether in dream state or waking life.

Brant, currently residing in Vancouver, works primarily in textile and embroidery, hand-dying her canvases and creating with thread abstract shapes reminiscent of swarms, neurology and topography. She explores the notion of colour, and the tensions between spirit and matter, dark and light and self and nonself.

Rader, a Port Alberni artist, has explored many media in her career. The works on exhibit are of mixed media combining hand drawn images with watercolour, gouache and digital. Rader is inspired by nature, landscapes and patterns, seamlessly venturing from figurative to abstract work.

In 2015, Studio B Gallery hosted another successful series of Collage Nights – drop-in sessions open to anyone and everyone interested in the art of collagemaking. Highly popular, Collage Nights will commence again in the new year. Select collages were printed into art cards and sold to raise funds for local nonprofit organization, Sew Sisters Artist Guild Society, under which Studio B operates. The art cards can be purchased at the CVAG gift shop as well as Studio B Gallery.

Untamed Dreams will remain on exhibit until early December. Everyone is invited to attend the opening reception on Oct. 2 at Studio B Gallery located at 2704 Dunsmuir Ave. in Cumberland.
