Lights of Broadway is perfectly pleased in every way to announce they have received the rights to stage the musical based on one of the most popular Disney movies of all time, Mary Poppins.
A supercalifragilisticexpialidocious story, Mary Poppins has won the hearts of millions throughout the years and was made into a musical, which opened in London and then on Broadway in 2006.
The movie and musical, which won seven Tony awards including Best Musical, holds a number of memories for the director of Lights of Broadway, Charity Van Gameren, who operates her musical theatre programs out of her new Center Stage Performing Arts Academy.
“It was my first movie as a child and it was extra special because my dad took me to it. My dad passed away in June of this year and so this show holds a very special place in my childhood memories,” said Van Gameren.
“I remember when Mary flew away at the end of the movie, I couldn’t hold back the tears. As I sat and read through the script several months ago, it had the same effect on me.
“It is a beautiful, classic tale of a family that finds their way back into each other’s hearts through the wisdom and kindness of Mary Poppins, the perfect nanny.”
Mary Poppins will fly into the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre May 6 and 7, 2016.
