Many people enjoy sweets, pastries, and baked goods, but what about those who take it to the next level?
Next Thursday, as part of the Thursday Artist Talk speaker series at the Surrey Art Gallery, New Westminster-based sugar artist Edit Albert will share what it means to create confectionaries as an artistic passion.
She will demonstrate how she applies specialized cake decorating techniques to royal icing, fondant, modeling chocolate, and Isomalt, resulting in scrumptious looking sculptures.
In her approach to confectionary art, Albert draws from time spent helping her grandmother in the kitchen, watching her mom teach kindergarten, and helping her dad with technical projects.
Albert has taken classes from recognized sugar artists and instructors in Canada and the United States, and in turn she shares her passion for confectionary art by giving demonstrations and teaching.
She is a member of the Canadian Cake Decorators, Washington State Sugar Artists, and International Cake Exploration Society (ICES). In 2012, her creations were featured at an ICES event in Reno, Nevada, and at Cake Love in Vancouver.
The Surrey talk takes place June 6 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
There will be time for questions and conversation during and following the talk. The event concludes by 9 p.m. and refreshments are provided.
