‘Summer Delights’ concert arranged at 11th hour to conclude Chemainus Classic season

After illness sidetracked the show originally planned, series organizers got on the phone

Chemainus Classical Concerts, which was to have featured a show called 8 Hands @ 88 Keys on June 2, had bad news recently.

The event had to be postponed due to illness.

But, Rykie Avenant and Catharina de Beer have found some wonderful replacement musicians.

“We are very excited about the artists we were able to secure for that date: Pablo Diemecke returns with his wife Ceci on flute and Frances Perriam on piano,” they said last week.

The trio will offer a wide-ranging program that swings all the way from J.S. Bach to Jerome Kern.

Diemecke, concert master of the Victoria Symphony for 20 years, is well known to Cowichan classical music fans, not only for his engaging and entertaining personality, but also for the virtuosity and beauty of tone of his playing.

Together with his wife, a recording and performing artist with an international reputation, and Perriam, they will brighten any musical event. So, naturally, organizers are thrilled that they’ve been able to find a way to present an entertaining concert to wind up their 2018-19 season.

Tickets are $25 at the door, or $18 if you’ve reserved or purchased in advance. Anybody under 18 gets in for $10 each.

Purchase your tickets from Owl’s Nest Bistro (Chemainus), Ten Old Books (Duncan), Salamander Books (Ladysmith) and Best Western Plus Chemainus Inn. You can also reserve in advance by phone. Just call 250-748-8383.
