Summer Festival Series continues with Flint and Feather

Husband and wife musical duo will perform Aug. 16 at the Willoughby amphitheatre

Pack a picnic basket, bring blankets, lawn chairs, a sun umbrella and maybe a sweater, just in case.

The Township of Langley’s free Summer Festival Series returns to the Willoughby Community Park Amphitheatre on Thursday, Aug. 16, with a performance by Flint and Feather.

The husband and wife duo from Calgary will take the stage at 7 p.m., with a performance that blends storytelling with songwriting to create charming ‘Rocky Mountain Folk-Pop’ songs inspired by Canadian history, Rocky Mountain folklore, and their own personal journeys.

Lauren and Joal Kamps’ original songs are filled with vivid imagery accented by delicate harmonies and their honest and engaging approach to performing connects with listeners of all ages and backgrounds.

Finalists in the Prophets of Music’s 2018 Emerging Artist Program, the couple has been busy this year recording singles with Juno Award-winning producer/musician Russell Broom of Jann Arden, Ian Tyson, and Sam Roberts fame.

They recently attended the 2018 Hornby Island School for Emerging Artists this summer during their four-week tour of western Canada which includes a stop in Langley.

In the fall, Joal will attend the Banff Centre’s Early Fall Musicians in Residence Program, where Flint & Feather will record their debut EP.

“A great audience attended a concert by another husband and wife duo earlier this summer, when Laura and Ryan Koch of the Kwerks performed at the Amphitheatre on July 26,” said Peter Tulumello, director of arts and culture for the Township of Langley.

“We are hoping that another entertaining and interactive couple will draw a similar crowd.”

The Summer Festival Series continues every Thursday until the end of this month at the amphitheatre, located in the 7700 Block of 202A Street, next to the Langley Events Centre.

Improv comedy by Vancouver Theatre Sports will be presented Aug. 23 and Celtic folk music by Tiller’s Folly concludes the series on Aug. 30.
