Leisure painters prepare for some excitement, The Old School House is hosting their 11th annual Sunday Painters Exhibition this month.
“It’s a wonderful time to encourage artists who paint for the love of it, that are not seeking to be professional artists, to pursue their art,” said executive director of TOSH, Corinne James. The idea came from a show created by renowned Group of Seven artist Arthur Lismer which featured the paintings of recreational artists, including many museum art school students.
Similarly, the event at TOSH is meant to encourage its students to participate, said James, as well as others in the community.
The work will be juried and artists will get feedback, followed by awards in four categories: watercolour, oil/acrylic, pastel and best in show. Separate prizes will be awarded to high school students.
Artists must not have sold more than three paintings in the past year to enter. Artwork should be delivered to TOSH between 10 a.m. and noon on Saturday, March 26 and must be picked up April 2. There is a $5 entry fee, except for students.
An opening reception will be held March 30 at 7 p.m. and on March 31 at 2 p.m. the walk and talk with judges will happen. For more information call 250-752-6133 or visit www.theoldschoolhouse.org.
