You’re invited to come to the 1st Tuesday Fundraiser at the Mex Pub on April 5 and listen to the contagious toe-tapping tunes of the Luke Blu Guthrie Band.

The cash donations collected at this month’s event will support Guthrie’s charity of choice, the Comox Valley Transition Society.

Guthrie is a local songwriter, singer and guitar picker who has been involved in the local music scene for over a decade. Guthrie is widely recognized as a versatile and creative guitar player, greatly respected for his diverse original music, which embraces funk, blues and folk and showcases his soulful, inspiring vocals.

Guthrie’s distinctive and eclectic style has also found a home on CBC Radio where his recordings have seen considerable play. His recently released CD Luke Blu Guthrie includes the talents of Comox Valley based musicians Anela Kahiamoe, Jim Roland Guthrie on bass, Jenn Forsland on vocals/percussion and Jack Roland on fiddle.

Luke’s performances are energetic, engaging, and his stories blend the past with the present with what one fan describes as “…an undeniably charismatic style. Luke has the ability to write songs that appeal to all ages.”

Joining Guthrie on April 5 will be band members Jenn Forsland, Jack Roland, and Jim Roland Guthrie.

Members of The Comox Valley Transition Society will be at the door to offer tax receipts for cash donations, and can also provide information and literature about their services. The local organization offers free and confidential support services to women and their children who have experienced violence or abusive relationships.

These resources include a 24-hour crisis line, a safe shelter called Lilli House, addiction programs and girls’ groups. You can also visit their website at www.cvts.ca for information about their programs and resources.

The monthly fundraising concert series is in its third year and has raised thousands of dollars for local non-profit groups. Each month features a guest performer who chooses a local charity to support. In addition, the events also gather food donations for the Comox Valley Food Bank Society, a vital resource to many local families and seniors.

The event on April 5 begins at 7:30 at the Mex Pub with an opening set by hosts Judy and Bruce Wing.
