Nick Gilder hit the top of glam rock popularity in the mid-1970s with Sweeney Todd. He considers himself fortunate to still be performing all these years later.
The Juno award-winning singer and songwriter is the feature entertainer along with Sweeney Todd for Thunder in the Valley this weekend.
Gilder’s fans will remember hits like Roxy Roller or Hot Child in the City, and hardcore followers will know that he also penned other songs that hit the top of the charts in the ‘80s.
While he still plays the old favourites, Gilder and Sweeney Todd also cover classic rock like Deep Purple and other bands of that era.
“It’s a lot more harder rock show than people might form an opinion of, listening to (our music) on the radio,” he said.
Sweeney Todd plays Glenwood Centre this Saturday, Aug. 6 along with the Berry Cup Blooze Band and other guests. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance, available online at fiveacre.tickit.ca or at Cloud City, Slammers Gym and Handy Andy’s. Tickets will be $40 at the door.
