Symphony pop-up concerts coming to Saltair

Only 40 tickets available so get them soon if you're interested

The Vancouver Island Symphony is bringing a series of four summer pop up concerts to Saltair as part of a series of concerts it has scheduled for Vancouver island through July and August.

Unable to present large groups of musicians to large audiences due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the summer pop up concert series will bring two trios, a quartet and a quintet to private backyards on four dates through the summer.

“The VIS has created this series of four concerts to provide you with an opportunity to hear musicians of the Symphony perform. Musicians have been very hit hard during the pandemic and will not have much work until there is a vaccine. These concerts allow our musicians to earn a wage and they also allow the Symphony to continue operate,” the Symphony said in a press release.

The concerts are sold as a four-package deal, so if you can’t attend all four you’ll need to partner with someone who will take the tickets you won’t be using. If you are interested in a single concert, you can email office@vancouverislandsymphony.com and you may be able to get a ticket if they are not sold out. Concerts will host no more than 40 people. The concerts will also be recorded, and the Symphony will be selling a subscription for you to be able to access them online.

“We are offering these two options as a way to continue to bring you beautiful music and employ our musicians until we can gather again in the theatre,” the Symphony said. “Your support of these subscription series is important in allowing the VIS to re-launch when we can.”

Concerts include a trio of flute, violin and bass; a string quartet with two french horns; a brass quintet; and a trio of oboe, clarinet and bassoon. Each concert is one hour in length. Concerts are on Fridays at 3 p.m. in Saltair on July 10, July 24, Aug. 7 and Aug. 21. The exact location will be sent to those who purchase tickets.

The price for the four concerts is $250 per person. Audience members must bring their own chairs and a washroom will be available for emergencies only.
