Take a guided tour of ceramics exhibitions

Exhibitions curator Jordan Strom will guide visitors through two shows at the Surrey Art Gallery.

Join Surrey Art Gallery curator Jordan Strom on a tour through two of the gallery’s current ceramics exhibitions.

Strom will take visitors through Ornamentalism: Clint Neufeld and Dirk Staschke and Beyond the Vessel’s Edge: Ceramics from the Permanent Collection, providing insight into why certain artwork was chosen for display and discuss the many ideas explored in the shows.

In Ornamentalism, everyday forms – from furniture and fruit to car engines and confections – are transformed into poignant allegories of desire, labour, and leisure by Clint Neufeld and Dirk Staschke. The functional gives way to the sculptural in Beyond the Vessel’s Edge, with works by John Chalke, Tam Irving, Ian Johnston, Sally Michener, Alwyn O’Brien, Linda Stanbridge, and Diana Lynn Thompson.

The tour takes place this Thursday, Feb. 21, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the gallery, located at 13750 88 Ave. Admission is by donation.
