Looking for an escape from reality in the new year?
The latest in the escape-room experience has come to Abbotsford in the form of virtual reality (VR).
Escape rooms have grown in popularity in the last few years, challenging players to work together to discover clues, solve puzzles and accomplish tasks to “escape” a themed room in a limited time.
Recent additions to this popular pastime are virtual-reality rooms, through which players – using VR goggles – can feel as if they are directly experiencing the adventure.
In Abbotsford, VRKADE recently began offering the experience from its location on Clearbrook Road.
The site offers multiple escape rooms, but their most popular are their two- and four-player Assassin’s Creed-themed options, titled Escape the Lost Pyramid and Beyond Medusa’s Gate.
Players can feel as if they’re standing on a precipice inside a pyramid or use their archery skills to open a passageway, for example.
Exit Escape Rooms on South Fraser Way also offers a VR option with its new Dragon Tower, a 45-minute medieval adventure for two to four players. They must try to escape from a prison tower before the dragons return for their annual sacrifice.
Also located in Abbotsford is Countdown Escape Rooms on Montrose Avenue.
