Three Maple Ridge dancers are reviving the dying art form of tap dancing by performing at the PNE, hoping to attract a new generation of tap dance lovers.

Taptastic runs daily at the fair with four 15-minute shows spread through out the day.

This is the PNE’s first-ever strictly tap show, but the group warns the audience not to expect old school flashes of Hollywood stars such as Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly; instead, the dancers aim to provide a comedic, rhythmic show for audiences of all ages to enjoy.

“We do a lot of skits in our shows. It keeps the performance light and we enjoy making fun of ourselves,” Taptastic dancer Nicole LaPlaca said. “We usually do a small skit before introducing a new song to dance to. It’s fun and it gets kids involved.”

“It’s been great so far. We’re shocked at how many people enjoy it. We have a lot of kids who come up to us after the show and say they want to start tap dancing,” she added.

“We also get a lot of people in their 50s who tell us they want to start tap dancing as well. It’s great to hear that.”

Taptastic performs at the Marketplace Junction everyday from 12:30 p.m. to 7: 30 p.m.
