The Okanagan Symphony Orchestra season opens with music from composers Kodaly, Tchaikovsky and Brahms.
Canadian-born violinist Lara St. John has performed as soloist with the orchestras of Cleveland, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, the Boston Pops, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, NDR Symphony, Zurich Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, Strasbourg Philharmonic, Bournemouth Symphony, Camerata Ireland, Belgrade Symphony, Amsterdam Symphony, and the Akbank Chamber Orchestra in Turkey, among others.
She began playing the violin when she was two years old and made her first appearance as soloist with orchestra at age four. Her European debut was with the Gulbenkian Orchestra when she was 10. St John entered the Curtis Institute at 13. Her teachers have included Felix Galimir and Joey Corpus.
“Violinst Lara St. John will wow us with her technical virtuosity and musical soul in Tchaikovsky’s epic Violin Concerto,” said OSO musical director Rosemary Thomson. “I am also excited to be celebrating my 10th season with the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra and welcome Lara to kick-off a season of lovely music for our audiences.”
The OSO concert season opens in Kelowna on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. (doors and pre-concert chat 6:30 p.m.) with additional performances in Penticton Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m. (doors and pre-concert chat 6:30 p.m.) and Vernon on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. (doors and pre-concert chat 6 p.m.).
