The ACT Centre brings a variety of entertainment in the new year

Events include comedy, dance, music, and more.

There’s never a dull moment at Maple Ridge’s ACT Arts Centre, and 2019 is no exception.

Here’s what’s coming up at the ACT Centre in the new year from January to February.

God is a Scottish Drag Queen 2: The Second Coming is a comedy show performed by Mike Delamont that runs on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 8 p.m.

The Plastic Orchid Factory is one putting on a show called Digital Folk that combines dance performances with video game, costume party, and music aspects. Digital Folk is on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.

For more dance, Canada’s Ballet Jörgen’s presents its most popular family ballet called Coppélia: A Comedy with Love, which follows the story of a lonely and disillusioned toy maker who wishes to bring a doll to life.

The show comes to life on Friday, Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m.

For the kids, a children’s entertainer Jacky Essombe, is putting on Jacky’s Village, a music, dance, and storytelling show on Monday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m.

If tricks are more your thing, Vancouver-based magician Matt Johnson is bringing his magic to the ACT with a show called Urban Deception on Friday, Feb. 22.

Coming up in theatre is a show called Blind Date, that follows the story of Mimi, who goes on a blind date with a man picked from the audience. This show runs on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 1 at 8 p.m.

A group of men will be taking off their clothes at The Comic Strippers show– a male stripper parody and improv comedy show–on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m., the Givol Talent Group presents Bowie–The Tribute.

The Golden Ears Movie Series with Fred Armstrong will showcase a variety of films including Porcupine Lake on Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m. and The Breadwinner on Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m.

Roots & Grooves combines a classically trained rising jazz pianist Nico Rhodes with veteran folk artist Rick Scott for a night of classical, folk, jazz, roots, and blues on Friday, Jan. 25 at 8 p.m.

And there’s also a series of free events including Songstage with Ivan Boudreau, an evening with guest songwriters followed by an open mic on Jan. 8 from 7 to 9 p.m.

The Whonnock Weavers and Spinners Guild are celebrating fibre arts by welcoming anyone interested in fibre arts or learning about fibre arts to a lobby night on Tuesday, Jan. 8 from 7 to p.m.

There’s a new art exhibit that combines visual art with sound called Soundscape/Landscape that runs from Jan. 12 to Feb. 23 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The Golden Ears Writers welcome writers to their workshop group on Tuesday, Jan. 15 from 7 to p.m., and the SFU Philosophers’ Cafe hosts informal public discussions starting on Thursday, Jan. 17 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Nigel Tucker is hosting a Celtic jam on Tuesday, Jan. 22 from 7 to 9 p.m.
