Dioramas are set up around the Sidney Museum and it’s all about teddy bears.
“We’ve got probably about 400 teddy bears on display throughout the museum, all different kinds,” said Peter Garnham, museum director.
They’ve presented some of the bears in themes: like a bear riding down a snow slope on a toboggan or a bear riding a train.
“We have a number of areas where there’s large groupings of teddy bears,” he said.
The theme this year is Bears on the Move – A Teddy Bear Christmas.
Every year, Garnham said they look for something different for their temporary exhibits and Garnham said bears seemed an appropriate Christmas-type interest.
“It’s very well attended. We get many families coming in, lots of children. And we have a scavenger hunt which is just for fun, where children can come in and look for the bears,” said Garnham.
This year marks the 13th year for the teddy bear exhibit and Garnham said lots of people in the community donated their bears — some deciding not to keep them.
“So that’s why we’ve got 200 or 300 that now belong to the museum that we put out each year,” he said, adding that the rest are from community members.
With the added theme of Christmas, the museum will be putting up their Christmas decorations beginning in December.
The teddy bear exhibit runs until Dec. 31 every day from 10 to 4 p.m.
