The Flu headed to Rock The Peach finals

Round two of Rock The Peach battle of the bands in Penticton at the Barking Parrot saw Kelowna band The Flu come out on top.

Judges at the Rock The Peach battle of the bands competition came down with a sickness on Thursday night in Penticton — The Flu to be exact.

The high energy band, The Flu, scored higher with the judges than Scissorkick and the Calum Hughes Collective to move forward into the finals. The Flu, a four-piece alternative band from Kelowna, join round one winners Malibu Knights in the finals to be held on April 6 at the Barking Parrot. The band that comes out on top in the finals wins a spot on the opening night of the Rock The Peach three-day music festival held in Penticton July 27-29.

The Flu’s sound is described as a blend of the massive presence of the Foo Fighters, the grungy rhythm of Queens of the Stone Age and the raw power of hardcore punk bands like Alexisonfire. The band recently opened for Paul Rogers, a Grammy nominated singer who helped form Bad Company.

Round three goes ahead on March 29 starting at 8 p.m. at the Barking Parrot. Bands battling in that round will be Oceans & Lights, Nuuka, Redfish and Daybeats. For more information on Rock The Peach visit www.rockthepeach.ca.
