Leon Dumstrey-Soos was struggling to express his feelings following the murder of his daughter, Vesna.

A visit to Liesl Kaberry at the Victim Services Unit would change that, and would lead to the publishing of Leon’s first book.

“Leisl suggested I write down my feelings. When I had written 20 pages, she said I should keep going,” said Leon.

Three years later he finished writing The Life Story of a Little Boy Called Miracle, an autobiography of sorts, a book he describes as a saga.

“The story is something I had to get out – I have experienced so many harsh things in my lifetime, like the harsh consequences of losing three people in my family. I had to get it off my chest,” said Leon, who had never written anything before other than having his letters to the editor published in the Northern Sentinel.

Having lost both his daughters and his wife, Leon was also diagnosed with Stage 4 bone cancer.

“They gave me eight months to live. I am well past that.

“The miracle is that I survived all these things,” said Leon, adding that he wouldn’t have survived had it not been for the three doctors who treated him, Drs. Kay, Mueller and Carstens.

What’s more Leon said that a gypsy woman had predicted his life events when he was only seven years old.

“She described my life to a T,” said Leon, the memories flooding back as he started writing.

“The brain is like a castle with many doors. I knocked on many doors to access the information for the book.”

He said he hopes that the book serves as an inspiration for people “to come out of their boxes.”

“Life is beautiful, kind and forgiving. Unless they forgive they will suffocate,” he added.
