Sarah Jane Scouten and her Honky Tonk Wingmen are going to raise the roof at the McMillan Arts Centre as part of the MACoustic Folk Night series this Friday.
Scouten, who visits as part of her winter tour, was nominated for two Canadian Folk Music Awards for her second album, The Cape, in 2014. The songwriter shows a signature flair for the roots of roots music, invoking Iris DeMent, Dolly Parton and Nanci Griffiths all at once in her “memorable performance” (Montreal Gazette).
A traditionalist at heart, she shows her signature flair for roots music, ranging from Western-swing, honky-tonk, Cajun and Appalachian string band music and a hint of the Maritimes.
The Honkey Tonk Wingmen are a four-piece country band with guitar, drums, bass and fiddle.
Friday’s performance starts at 7 p.m., with doors open at 6:30. Tickets are $12 for OCAC members and $15 for non-members, and are available at the MAC during gallery hours (Tues-Sat 10-4). Remaining tickets will be sold at the door.
