In a very strange twist of fate, Kelowna Actors Studio has had lightning strike it twice in one season.
The company has recently received notice that Disney has pulled all Canadian rights for Disney’s Beauty and the Beast for next year. Disney has not supplied an official reason.
A number of companies across the country find themselves scrambling to pickup the pieces and solidify a replacement.
KAS, however, has already announced its replacement production. Randy Leslie, artistic managing director, has chosen the family classic Meridith Wilson’s The Music Man.
Tickets already sold for Beauty and the Beast will automatically switch over to the Music Man and KAS will mail out replacement tickets to all its patrons.
Meredith Willson‘s THe Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize—this despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef.
His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall.
By turns wicked, funny, warm, romantic and touching, The Music Man is family entertainment at its best.
The Music Man will run from May 21 to June 8, 2014.
