Burns Lake’s Beacon Theatre is bringing ‘The Nutcracker’ ballet to the big screen.
The Nutcracker ballet, a perennial Christmas favourite will be performed by the world famous, prestigious ballet company, ‘The Bolshoi’ who are based in Moscow.
The Bolshoi first opened its doors in 1773 and was originally a dancing school for the Moscow orphanage.
For most of the last three decades, the Bolshoi was led by Maestro Yuri Grigorovich, an artistic director known for his impeccable choreography.
Under Grigorovich and graced with a series of gifted dancers, the Bolshoi grew to one of the world’s great ballet companies.
The company’s first premiere performance of ‘The Nutcracker’ ballet was on March 12, 1966 at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
Just in time for Christmas, the Beacon Theatre are having a Sunday afternoon screening on Dec. 18 at 2 p.m.
The ballet will be screened direct to Burns Lake live via satellite from Moscow.
With Tchaikovsky’s timeless music and the wonderful ballet story of Clara, Herr Drosselmeyer and the Mouse King, along with famous melodies such as the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Waltz of the Flowers, the Russian Dance, the Chinese Dance, the Arabian Dance and more, it is definitely a special performance not to be missed this Christmas.
