The Reach Gallery Museum holds a special afternoon of events for visitors on Sunday, Sept. 30 in celebration of its 10th anniversary.
The open house runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at The Reach, 32388 Veterans Way.
Curators Adrienne Fast and Kris Foulds will be on hand to provide overview tours of the exhibitions and answer questions.
“One of the advantages of an exhibition tour is that we’re able to point out things that might not be obvious when you’re in the exhibitions on your own – you know, the behind-the-scenes stuff,” says Fast, curator of art and visual culture.
Visitors can also learn fascinating facts about the community’s history with Foulds, curator of historical collections.
“One of the most popular topics from Abbotsford’s history is the draining of the Sumas Lake. A lot of people in Abbotsford don’t know that we used to be a lakefront community,” Foulds says.
The open house also features birthday cake, make-and-take crafts for the family, an opportunity for attendees to share their support for The Reach by participating in the 100 Day of The Reach fundraiser, and information about what The Reach offers year round.
The Reach opened in September 2008, and has grown into a hub of creative and cultural life in the community, and across the Fraser Valley.
To date, The Reach has welcomed nearly 250,000 visitors to 181 exhibitions and more than 1,200 events and programs. Visit thereach.ca for more information.
