7 Stories, a fast-paced satire that takes place on the window ledge of a seven-story building where a man is contemplating suicide, is being brought to the Capilano University stage with the help of a Langley actor.
Written by Canadian playwright Morris Panych, the production is full of eccentric characters, the man is endlessly interrupted by a variety of quirky building residents and becomes drawn into the absurdity of their daily lives.
The man at the window ledge is played by Brayden Alexander Meehan, a student in the program who attributes his youth in Langley as a major push to get into acting.
“When R.E. Mountain was still a secondary school, my drama teacher really helped me get to where I am today. The entire class was a good group of people and I am grateful for them every day,” Meehan said.
The Langley actor added that a good friend of his was accepted in the program, showing him that there were options to study the profession and explore the world of theatre.
“I am on the stage the entire run of the show, standing on the edge of a building,” Meehan said. “At first, you may look at it like he is suicidal, but that isn’t quite the case. It has been an intense rehearsal process, but that has helped in all the best ways.
The production team and student cast at Capilano University, having just completed a successful run of Macbeth, take on the challenging character-driven script as part of their program project.
Meehan is not the only Langley actor on stage either; Becca Hagen, Kaila Kondo, Nao Shishikura, Maia LaHay, and Jackson Omelaniec all have Langley backgrounds.
The show runs Feb. 4 to 8 at 8 p.m., with an additional 2 p.m. matinee on Feb. 8.
